Zotec Partners recently provided valuable data for the major Emergency Medicine Policy Institute Rand Corporation study on the costs of uncompensated care. Our redacted data helped to encourage other organizations to participate and add their own claims information to the study, bringing the total claims numbers used in the study to nearly 100 million.
The study’s data will be used to help make the case for increased reimbursements from Medicare, optimizing revenue and ultimately enhancing the patient experience. The study results were just published and show that Medicare reimbursements are in desperate need of an increase.
The report says without higher reimbursements, hospital-based emergency care in the U.S. is at risk. Quality care is being threatened by issues such as patients with increasingly complex needs and failing payments for physicians.
According to Medical Xpress, the ED safety net that we all rely on has frayed to the point of breaking. In network reimbursements declined nearly 11% and out of network declined nearly 48%, during the four-year period which spans both pre and post the No Surprises Act.
RAND also provided recommendations for how we can all better advocate for improved legislation that not only supports patients, but also providers. The timing is critical since Congress is currently considering a Medicare fee schedule fix and potential cuts to Medicaid in their reconciliation bill development. This data will help with advocacy efforts on behalf of both providers and patients.
Zotec was honored to participate in such a beneficial study that can support our clients and help shape our industry. To learn more about how Zotec is advocating for our clients, visit us at: Advocacy ZPAC – Zotec Partners.
