RUC Survey Awareness Letter April 2021

The first week of March, ACEP’s RVS Update Committee (RUC) team will conduct a random survey of the ED Evaluation and Management (E/M) codes.  This survey will assist with the preparation of a presentation for the April 2021 AMA/Specialty Society RVS Update Committee meetings.

Background

These codes were recently surveyed in 2018 for implementation in 2020. However, recent changes to office codes, outpatient codes, and the revision of documentation guidelines to base code selection (on either medical decision making or time) has triggered another review.

A strong response rate is vital to success

The RUC consideration process begins with a survey of members who provide the services under consideration. This survey should take 30-60 minutes of your time, please keep the following in mind:

• A good response to the survey is very important to inform and support ACEP’s presentation to the RUC.
• If you receive an email asking you to complete the survey, please do so before the established deadline.
• It is important that you complete the survey for all five codes in the ED E/M family.
