Need to Know Nasal Fracture Care Updates for 2022

The 2022 CPT book brought significant changes to the Nasal Fracture Care codes. Nasal fracture care is a service that is performed regularly in the emergency department setting. To ensure you don’t have to go “sniffing” around for the updates, we’ve included them here.

CPT code 21310, Closed treatment of nasal bone fracture w/out manipulation, has been deleted effective for dates of service 1/1/2022 and forward. This was the code most commonly-utilized in the ED setting. The following parenthetical note was added to the CPT section:   “21310 has been deleted.  To report closed treatment of nasal bone fracture without manipulation or stabilization, use appropriate E/M code”.

CPT codes 21315 and 21320 which were in the same section with CPT 21310, have been revised for 2022 to include manipulation.  The Closed Nasal Fracture Care codes available for 2022 are as follows:

In summary, for 2022 a Nasal fracture care service can only be reported in addition to the E/M level if manipulation is performed. If there is no manipulation performed, the service is included with the E/M level.
