Final Days of the 118th Congress: What You Need to Know
The December 20 government funding deadline is approaching, and Congress must act to prevent devastating Medicare cuts in 2025. While a government shutdown is unlikely, a Continuing Resolution (CR) that includes essential healthcare provisions is expected. One critical issue is the looming cut to Medicare reimbursement rates – the fifth consecutive year of reductions – threatening access to care for millions of Medicare patients.
This month, we have introduced a new call to action urging Congress to incorporate language from the Patient Access and Practice Stabilization Act of 2024 (U.S. HR 10073) into the year-end CR. This legislation would eliminate the –2.8% Medicare cut and add a +1.8% increase to better align reimbursement rates with rising healthcare costs. Tell Congress to include provisions from H.R. 10073 in the year-end funding bill to stop the cuts to Medicare and protect the future of healthcare!

Anesthesia Providers Face Reimbursement Challenges
On December 2, 2024, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of Connecticut, Missouri, and New York released a policy detailing how they would not pay for the complete duration of anesthesia for patients’ surgical procedures. By December 5, 2024, in response to pressure from the healthcare community, industry societies, and healthcare advocates, Anthem has retracted this policy.
Anesthesia providers are facing major reimbursement challenges in 2024, driven by reductions from both private insurers and federal policy changes. These cuts threaten the financial stability of hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) and could limit access to critical anesthesia services nationwide.
